SSC Ultimate Aero TT

Billed as one of the fastest supercars in the world, the SSC Ultimate Aero TT is currently produced by SSC North America and is the creation of company owner Jerod Shelby, of no relation to famed automobile designer Carroll Shelby. Available in a uniquely wild palate of colors, the Aero TT is not only decidedly flashy, it is also exceptionally powerful and quick.

The SSC Ultimate Aero TT comes with plenty of luxury kit, including air conditioning, power windows and mirrors, a 10-speaker premium sound system with 7.5-inch screen, navigation and CD/DVD playback. The included backup camera is also a nice touch, considering how hard it is to see what’s behind most supercars. The Aero TT also comes with front air lift system to help it navigate past speed bumps, curbs and steep ramps.

Powertrain and Top Speed

Power for the SSC Ultimate Aero TT comes from a twin-turbocharged 6.4-liter eight-cylinder engine. Crafted from billet aluminum and designed in-house at SSC, this engine is capable of producing a genuinely massive 1287 horsepower and 1112 pound-feet of torque. The two massive turbochargers are instrumental in providing all of the power for the SSC’s unique powerplant.

The Aero TT uses a six-speed manual transmission to transmit all of its power to the rear wheels. This gives the vehicle a projected top speed of 273 mph, although the officially tested top speed so far is only 257 mph. The Aero TT once held the title of “world’s fastest production car” according to Guinness World Records until the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport broke that record in 2010.

Handling and Performance

With a power-to-weight ratio of 2.14 pounds per horsepower and a curb weight of 2,750 pounds, the SSC Ultimate Aero TT is capable of blistering performance. The supercar breaks the 60 mph mark from a complete standstill in just 2.78 seconds, while breaking the quarter-mile mark in 9.9 seconds at 144 mph. The vehicle also features up to 1.05 g of grip thanks to the massive 235 35YR19 front and 335 30YR20 rear Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 tires.

The Aero TT utilizes an independent suspension all around with adjustable coil-over shocks at all four wheels and adjustable coil-over springs at the rear. The ride is typical of most high-performance supercars: somewhat harsh, especially on severe bumps. The rack and pinion assisted steering provides good feedback while giving precise control of the vehicle to the driver. Powerful 14-inch vented disc brakes at all four wheels gives the Aero TT plenty of stopping power from any speed. SSC’s powerful creation comes to a stop from 60 mph in just 103 feet.
